On March 21, 2024, at about 3:20 AM, a fatal hit-and-run motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian occurred on Joseph P. Leong Highway in the Haleiwa area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a vehicle, which has yet to be identified, was traveling southbound on Joseph P. Leong Highway and struck a 39-year-old female pedestrian, who was walking on the right shoulder of the roadway.
The unidentified vehicle fled the scene southbound without stopping to render aid or provide information.
As a result of the collision, the 39-year-old female pedestrian succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
At this time, it is unknown if speed, drugs, or alcohol were contributing factors of this collision.

This is the 6th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 12 at this same time in 2023.
The investigation is ongoing.
