***ORIGINAL***
On July 3, 2024, at about 8:35 AM, a fatal motor vehicle collision occurred on Sierra Drive near Wilhemina Rise in the Kaimuki Area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section that an 81-year-old male motorist was attempting to make a U-turn at the intersection of Sierra Drive and Wilhelmina Rise when, for reasons unknown, traveled off of the roadway and collided with a rock wall.
As a result of the collision, the 81-year-old male motorist was unresponsive and transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition where he later was pronounced dead.
The 81-year-old male motorist was wearing a seatbelt during the collision and may have been suffering a medical condition.
At this time, speed, drugs nor alcohol, and drugs do not appear to be contributing factors in the collision.
This is the 16th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year as compared to 27 at the same time in 2023.
The investigation is ongoing.
