***ORIGINAL***
On July 10, 2024, at about 10:00 AM, a fatal motor vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of East Manoa Road and Oahu Avenue in the Manoa Area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section that a 74-year-old male motorist was traveling northbound on Oahu Avenue when for reasons unknown, he lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle then traveled through the intersection of East Manoa Road and collided with a 71-year-old female motorist who was traveling southbound on Oahu Avenue.
As a result of the collision, the 74-year-old male motorist was unresponsive and transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition where he was later pronounced dead. The 71-year-old female motorist was not injured and remained on scene.
The 74-year-old male motorist was wearing a seatbelt during the collision and may have been suffering a medical condition.
At this time, neither speed, drugs nor alcohol, appear to be contributing factors of this collision.
This is the 17th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year as compared to 27 at the same time in 2023.
The investigation is ongoing.
