***ORIGINAL***
On December 19, 2023, at about 11:30 AM, a fatal motor vehicle collision involving two motor vehicles occurred on the Moanalua Freeway west of the Middle Street overpass.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 35 year-old female motorist began to slow down in traffic and collided with the concrete median.
The 35 year-old female motorist then collided with a 28-year-old male motorist and his 38-year-old female passenger, who were also traveling westbound on the Moanalua Freeway, in a secondary collision.
The 35 year-old female motorist continued on and then collided with the concrete median again before coming to final rest.
The 35 year-old female motorist was taken to an area hospital in critical condition where she later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
The 28-year-old male motorist and his 38-year-old female passenger were not injured and remained at the scene of this collision.
At this time speed, drugs, or alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors of this collision.
This is the 56th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 54 at the same time in 2022.
The investigation is ongoing.
